Mobile Jaycees to host 77^th Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo

United State’s largest and oldest saltwater fishing tournament set for July 17-19, 2009

The 77th Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, hosted by the Mobile Jaycees, will be held July 17- 19, 2009. Tickets are on sale now for the largest and oldest saltwater fishing tournament in the United States with prizes totaling more than $400,000 in more than 30 categories and three jackpots.

Fishing begins 5 a.m. Friday, July 17, with the ceremonial cannon blast at the ADSFR site at the foot of the Dauphin Island Bridge, and the tournament concludes 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, with a ceremonial cannon blast. The weigh station for the fishing tournament will be open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. 

There is a MANDATORY Captain’s Meeting and Sign-Out for all boats entered in the Raymarine Big Game Jackpot, Scout Boats / Paradise Marine King Mackerel Jackpot, and all anglers who plan on fishing for Tarpon. The meeting and sign-out will be at the ADSFR site on Thursday July 16 at 6:00 p.m.

Before the anglers begin the competition, the festivities for the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo will kick-off with the Bud Light Liar’s Contest on Thursday, July 16 at the ADSFR site. Rodeo ticket holders can participate in the competition by telling their best, or worst, fish tale.  Prejudging will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the finals starting at 7:30 p.m.  A “distinguished” panel of invited judges will determine the winners. Hyena Recording artist Grayson Capps and the Stumpknockers will be providing musical entertainment.

The Awards Ceremony for the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m Monday, July 20 at the Aircraft Pavilion at Battleship Memorial Park.

Prizes:

Every angler in the Open Competition who weighs in a legal fish will be entered into a drawing for a

21’ Contender Boat with a Yamaha outboard motor, Loadmaster trailer and Eagle Towers T-Top. 

In addition to ADSFR Open Competition, anglers may also enter any of our Jackpots:

·         The Raymarine Big Game Jackpot pays cash for the largest Tuna (Yellow fin or Black fin), Dolphin, and Wahoo.

·         The Scout Boats / Paradise Marine King Mackerel Jackpot pays cash for 1st through 10^th place in the open division with 1^st place guaranteed to receive $10,000. 2^nd through 10^th place payouts based on number of entries; and cash paid to the top 23 ft. and under boat.  The recreational division pays 1^st through 10^th place with the payouts based on the number of entries. There will be a drawing among all anglers who enter a fish in the King jackpot for a Scout Boats 175 SPORTFISH with a Yamaha 90 hp outboard motor, and Loadmaster trailer.
